A New Zealand-invented and manufactured prebiotic ingredient made from locally-grown gold kiwifruit has recently won major international awards in the USA, Europe and Asia.
Prebiotics are rapidly gaining popularity worldwide for promoting gut health by providing food and fibre for gut-friendly bacteria, so this award success is not only a win for its maker Anagenix, but a win for New Zealand’s natural health products industry as a whole.
Research shows the global prebiotic ingredients market to be worth USD 6.78 billion in 2021 and is expected to reach around USD 20.78 billion by 2030 with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 13.25% from 2022 to 2030.
The winning prebiotic ingredient – Livaux – was awarded the Prebiotic of the Year by the world’s leading supplements, health and nutrition publication NutraIngredients.com in its United States, European, Asian award categories.
NutraIngredients.com is the world’s key news source for the functional food & beverage and dietary supplement industries. The awards honour the best and brightest in ingredients, finished products, companies, people and initiatives in the nutrition and dietary supplements industry.
New Zealand-owned Anagenix makes and markets Livaux and other high-quality scientifically-formulated prebiotic and other ingredients used by health supplement and nutraceutical manufacturers.
Its products are made from NZ grown gold kiwifruit and boysenberry-apple powders, feijoa and blackcurrant, gently processed from non-GMO whole fruits, to retain a high level of bioactivity. The company’s products are also BioGrow NZ organic certified, halal and kosher.
Anagenix Managing Director Chris Johnson describes Livaux as a “precision prebiotic” in that the prebiotic effect is targeted to support the growth of Faecalibacterium prausnitzii (F.prau), which is low in people suffering from irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), irritable bowel disease (IBD) and Crohn’s disease among other health issues.
As an extremely oxygen sensitive bacteria, F.prau cannot be taken as a probiotic supplement. Consumers who want to improve their gut health and promote the growth of their resident F.prau, therefore need to take a prebiotic like Livaux.
As a whole-fruit solution, it is safe and effective for children and adult formulas, including for specific health conditions such as IBS, IBD (Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis) and celiac disease sufferers.
Livaux is as an active ingredient to support microbiome and repair digestive health in products in manufactured and sold in USA, New Zealand, South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore and China.
It is available in New Zealand by way of Lifestream’s Kiwi Bio Boost and Kiwi Bio Boost Kids products, Puraz’s Probiotic Plus, Korure Kiwi Prebiotic and Healtheries Digestive support which all contain it as the active ingredient.
